From August 16th to 18th, our school successfully held the "Advanced Functional Materials Green and Low Carbon Academic Seminar". This is a powerful measure taken by our school to implement the strategy of "building the city through industry", achieve high-quality development of the school, and accelerate the construction of high-level applied universities.

Professor Han Buxing, an academician of the CAS Member, Professor Bernd Strehmel, director of the Institute of Coating and Surface Technology of the University of Applied Sciences in Lower Rhine, Germany, Zhang Yanqiang, a researcher of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a leading talent of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", Professor Zou Yingquan, president of the Science Entrepreneur Science and Technology Innovation Society of the School of Chemistry of Beijing Normal University and the China Photosensitive Society, and more than 100 experts and scholars from universities and research institutions at home and abroad, such as Nankai University, Dalian University of Technology, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, Aalborg University, Denmark, Hebei University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Engineering, were invited to attend the seminar. Jia Yunxiao, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, Cai Zhenyu, President, Zhao Baohua, Assistant to the President and Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, relevant functional department heads, and teacher representatives attended the seminar. Cai Zhenyu presided over the seminar.

In the keynote speech, Han Buxing gave a presentation titled "Green Chemistry and Sustainable Development", focusing on the significant significance and key role of green chemistry in achieving the "dual carbon" goal. He highlighted the achievements of his research team in cutting-edge fields such as carbon dioxide resource utilization and high-value conversion of biomass and waste plastics. The report elaborates on the path and enormous potential of green chemistry in supporting major national strategies with its forward-looking perspective and innovative thinking, providing valuable scientific insights and solutions for us to address global climate change and resource and environmental challenges.

Jia Yunxiao briefly introduced the basic situation of our school in his speech. He stated that the theme of this seminar is the major strategic needs for green and sustainable development, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as bio based materials, photopolymerization technology, and green functional coatings. Academic exchanges and practical sharing will be carried out, with lofty intentions and significant significance. This seminar is held at our school, which not only affirms the achievements of our school's related discipline construction, but also provides a platform for our school to enhance the integration and innovative development of advanced functional materials and related disciplines. I hope that experts and scholars can fully exchange ideas, share achievements, inspire wisdom, and build consensus, contributing their wisdom and strength to serve the country's high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and high-quality development of regional economy and society.

Cai Zhenyu presided over the opening ceremony. He stated that this seminar focuses on the forefront of green and low-carbon development, providing a high-level exchange platform for academia and industry, and offering new ideas and directions for promoting innovative development in the field of functional materials in China. This conference is not only an important opportunity to promote the development of materials chemistry and related disciplines in China, but also a high-level exchange platform to gather high-quality resources for the construction of our university's master's program in materials and chemical engineering. I hope that the attending experts and scholars can collide more innovative sparks through this seminar and contribute wisdom to the development of China's green and low-carbon cause.

After the keynote speech, Academician Han Buxing visited the former site of the Fourth Division of our university and the Memorial Hall of Northern University. Cai Zhenyu presented a letter of appointment to Academician Han Buxing.

During the keynote lecture and doctoral youth forum, Bernd Strehmel from the University of Applied Sciences in Lower Rhine, Germany, shared sustainable polymerization technology mediated by ultraviolet and near-infrared. Zhang Yanqiang, Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, focused on the latest research progress of tension ring high-energy aerospace fuel. Zou Yingquan from Beijing Normal University shared his experience and reflections on the research and development practices of science and engineering professors. Young researchers from Hubei Gurun Technology, Tsinghua University, Nankai University, Hebei University of Science and Technology and other institutions shared their insights on green chemistry and carbon neutrality, photopolymerization technology, biobased materials, aerospace high-energy fuels, carbon dioxide resource utilization, saline alkali land restoration, photoinitiators, organic fluorescent probes, titanium dioxide photocatalytic materials and other areas.

The successful holding of this seminar further demonstrates the effective achievements of our university in subject construction, integration of industry and education, and talent cultivation, and is also a vivid embodiment of our university's "international development strategy". The school will take this conference as an opportunity to thoroughly implement the "1369" work ideas, further strengthen cooperation with domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, help achieve the national "dual carbon" strategic goals and promote high-quality regional economic development, accelerate the construction process of the Master's program in Materials and Chemical Engineering and provincial-level scientific research platforms, and inject new impetus into our school's goal of becoming a high-level applied university.
